159 years since the Romanian Gendarmerie was founded

     On April 3rd, the Romanian Gendarmerie, the 35,000 strong military police, celebrated 159 years since its founding. TRH Prince Paul of Romania and Princess Lia were Guests of Honor at the ceremonies organized on the occasion of this special event.

     During the festive gathering, Inspector General Dr. Costica Silion offered HRH Prince Paul of Romania a plaque, as a sign of gratitude for the support offered to the Gendarmes. The Minister of Administration and Internal Affairs, Mr. Dan Nica, was also present at this ceremony.

The Obama Presidential Inauguration

The Obama Presidential Inauguration was one of the most dignified and exciting inaugurations that TRH Prince and Princess Paul of Romania have ever been specially invited to. At the bipartisan dinner honoring General Colin Powell, former Secretary of State, the new President, Vice President and the senators from both parties, mixed with Oscar winning directors Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Affleck and Sharon Stone at the exclusive sit down black tie dinner.

In their hotel, Prince Paul mentioned that the most interesting place in Washington was the lobby of the St. Regis. One could see the future CIA director Leon Panetta or the Oscar winner Forrest Whitaker or the members of the new Presidential Cabinet. The Royal couple viewed the star studded Lincoln Memorial concert, seated next to the future Secretaries of Justice, Labor, Energy and the UN Ambassador.

Scholarships to Romanian students at Royal Academy of Music London

   Since 1822 The Royal Academy of Music London has been graced with many fine young musicians. Today over 55 countries are represented in the 700 strong student body.   HRH Prince Paul of Romania inaugurated a protocol of scholarships with The Royal Academy in respect to the memory of his great grandmother, HM Queen Marie of Romania who was the grand daughter of HM Queen Victoria.
  Queen Marie was born as a British Princess and was an avid patroness of the Arts, particularly music. In honor on this Royal tradition, Prince Paul gave the first scholarship to a gifted Romanian violinist, Emanuela Buta.  It was a pleasant surprise for his wife, Princess Lia that her mother was born and educated in  the same city as Emanuela.

Visiting Patriarch Daniel’s home on Saint Parascheva Day

   TRH Prince Paul and Princess Lia of Romania were invited, on the occasion of the Orthodox celebration of Saint Parascheva, to participate in the religious ceremony that was held in the Monastery with the same name, in Dobresti village – Lugoj county (the village of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel).

In that sunny day, in front of the little church, TRH were festooned with flowers by the villagers.
The religious ceremony was conducted by His Holiness Teodosie, Their Graces Bishops Calinic, Gherasim, and Paisie from Lugoj.

International Joseph Schmidt Opera Contest in Suceava

   Honorary President at the second edition of the International Schimdt Singing contest, TRH Prince Paul and Princess Lia gave out prizes worth $ 2.500 to the winners. The event took place in the Grand Hall of the Burdujeni Train Station in Suceava. The jury was comprised of: Georgeta Stoleriu - Honor President, Elena Botez - President, Kathleen McCalla, Dumitru Gheorgiu and Michael Macek.

Opening of the school year in Dragasani

    TRH Prince Paul and Princess Lia were invited to the opening of the school year of the Military School of Officers and Gendarmes “Grigore Alexandru Ghica”. Prince Paul, official sponsor, will offer in two years, at the end of Military School, each student a prize consisting of 1.000 Euros. People who also participated at the event were General Penciuc, the mayor and prefect of Dragasani.

The Arges and Muscel Festival

TRH Prince Paul and Princess Lia of Romania celebrate the folklore with the people from Arges. Saturday, 06.09.2008, Prince Paul and Princess Lia were guests of honor at Pitesti, to celebrate the folklore with people from Arges. At the invitation from the Prefecture of Arges, Their Royal Highness gladly accepted to take part in the Romanian traditions and to encourage young men not to lose their rich cultural inheritance. Princess Lia had a love for folklore even since childhood. Even though she was born and raised in America, Princess Lia was surrounded her whole life by the beautiful Romanian traditions. Her mother had years in a row a radio show specially for the Romanian community from USA and Canada.
