Annual Gala Honoring Police Day was officiated by the Minister of the Interior Cristian David and Inspector General Police Chief Dr. Gheorghe Popa. The event centers around the awarding for outstanding services of police officers throughout the country. Ambassadors, Police Chiefs and 34 representatives of the EU and neighboring countries attended the prestigious affair at The Romanian Athenium, often compared favorably to the Royal Albert Hall.
It has become a Royal tradition for Prince Paul of Romania to present each of the families of the fallen officer heroes with a donation. After a reception at the residence of Prince and Princess Paul for the families, the Royal couple presented, on stage, at the Gala, a donation of 1,000 Euros each, to demonstrate their respect for the families of these brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Last year, the Princess had discovered that the children who had lost their fathers were all from Arad, the city where her mother had been born. It was particularly touching when she made the decision to sponsor these youngsters, in memory of her family’s ties.
