After 90 years, the first member of the Romanian royal family was born and then baptized with the President of Romanian and first lady Mrs. Traian Basesu as godparents with Princess Marie Gabrielle of Savoie and Princess Madeleine of Bentheim and Steinfurt and Prince Moritz von Hesse as Honorary Godparents. Witnesses included Princess Joumalla of Morocco who is ambassador to the U.K., Prince and Princess Phillip Hohenlohe, Prince Boncompagni, French heart surgeon Prince Rodolphe Greciano and his family, Princess Delfina Lancelotti, Princess Viktoria of Schaumburg-Lippe, Countess Maria Carolina Zucchini Metelli, 35 ambassadors, Ministers of the Romanian Government and leaders of the political opposition and the President of the Rom. Parliamental Chamber of Deputies, Generals of the Gendarme, Veterans of Foreign War and highly decorated war heroes. Princess Joumalla, officially represented HM King Mohammed VI and arrived via HM private plane. the church was selected as the site for the baptism by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel because it had been constructed by one of Prince Paul's ancestors and named after his wife Domnita (Princess) Balasa Church. The reception featured music by legendary pan pipe flutist George Zamfir and traditional folkloric dancers and musicians from all over the country.
