A Royal birth in Romania after 90 years

"HRH Prince Paul of Romania has a son"

At the Queen Marie Maternity hospital in Bucharest a little prince was born on Jan. 11. It has been 90 years since a member of the Royal Family, has been born in their homeland; 1920 Prince Carol Mircea, 1921 ex King Michael. The baby Carol Ferdinand was named after his father’s ancestors, King Carol I and II and King Ferdinand, founders of the modern Romania. Carol is Charles in English a caesarian section concluded without problem. The hospital is named after HM Queen Marie of Romania, daughter of Prince Albert of Edinburgh and granddaughter of HM Queen Victoria. She is the great grandmother of Prince Paul.

"My wife Princess Lia and I are grateful to be blessed with s healthy child today. We are pleased that our wish to have him born in Romania has been so well received by our fellow countryman as a sign of healing from the pain they suffered under Communism. The birth of our son is another reason to reassert my duty of honor towards our ancestors, our fine republic and for the young generation to better understand the history of the Romanian people whom we love so much", stated Prince Paul.

Prince Paul is the grandson of HM King Carol II and Princess Ioana Valentino (born Lambrino). Although this marriage was subsequently illegally annulled politically motivated by the than Prime Minister, justice provided prevailed eventually when 3 EU countries ruled that marriage was legal, non morganatic, illegally annulled and that Prince Paul father, Prince Carol Mircea was the rightful first born son with Right of Succession. Prince Paul’s foundation has donated over 6 million Euros worth of medical equipment, convoys of medicine, reconstruction of schools, clinics and churches and scholarship. He is the ambassador for the Romanian students at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he sponsors scholarships for them. The British papers reported that he was the 1st member of any Royal House to return to a former Soviet bloc country after the Revolution.

His wife was a post graduate student at Oxford worked at the Carter White House, was patron of the 1st breast cancer awareness program in Romania, and headed the “Reading is fun” initiative in Bucharest, Presidential appointee of the Fulbright commission and Human Rights commissioner.

Prince Carol Ferdinand will be baptized in the Orthodox forth and will be raised in Romania.
