The City Mayor of Calarasi, Mr. Nicoale Dragu, invited as special guests the President of Romania, Traian Basescu and TRH Prince Paul (Queen Marie's great grandson) and Princess Lia of Romania to the ceremony of unveiling the statue of HM Queen Marie standing in the Central Park in Calarasi.
At this event also participated the President of the War Veterans Association, gen. Dragnea, the President of the Association of the Knight’s Order ‘Mihai Viteazu’, gen. (r) Teodor Halic, senators, deputies and other officials.
The statue will remind to people about those history pages that we should be very proud.
In the memory of his great-grandmother, Queen Marie, Prince Paul will offer a prize of 1000 euro to the best student of "Mihai Eminescu" High school.
Queen Marie of Romania, the wife of King Ferdinand, was an important character, one of the most popular and loved figures in the monarchic circles. Diplomatic, clever, master of arts, fearless advocate for the modernization and Europeanization of the country, she is legendary for her ambition.
